This artwork piece is a sculpture of an octopus. The tentacles are on the bottom and the curve like swirls but the bottom is flat. The head is in the middle of the tentacles, and I gave it eyes and a mouth. It is glazed with blue caprice all over. I created my octopus by starting with a slab of white clay and I cut out the tentacles. I then made the head and put it onto the bottom part. Then I cut out the face and holes in the bottom by carving out clay bits. Then I fired it and glazed it, and then fired it again. I decided to make an octopus because when I was looking online for inspiration I saw a bunch of oceany things and wanted to do something of a sea creature. Then I seen the dolphin sculptures at sea world and thought that an octopus sculpture would go well with dolphins. Octopuses are such a cool creature because of how their tentacles just swarm freely. The picture in the top right is what inspired my sculpture. My goals for this piece was to create a sculpture that would look decent somewhere in sea world. I think that my octopus would be a good edition and I think that little kids would love to take pictures by it. I think that it is very cute and it makes me happy to look at. Throughout the whole process I just wanted to express my love for sea creatures and make a cute sculpture that would look great at sea world.
